When you move into a new home, it seems like there are always a million things to do! At Spica Realty, we want you to have the smoothest transition that you possibly can. As a rule of thumb, we always recommend that you tackle the small tasks first, then move on to the next. You’re home owners now; be sure to take the time to enjoy this season in your life.

Below we’ve provided a checklist to help get yourself organized as you move into your new home.

Establishing Your New Home

• Connect your home with your local energy supplier
• Connect your home with an electric company
• Call and set a date for internet and cable set-up
• Call your homeowners association and ask about any immediate tasks you must perform as new owners
• Change your address with the post office and set up a forwarding address from your last residence
• Get trash and recycling bins delivered
• Have water transferred into your name
• Contact local shoveling or lawn maintenance crews
• Enroll your kids in school
• Register to vote
• Change your address on your driver’s license through the Secretary of State

Don’t get stressed moving in to your new home. Try to do as much of this list as you can before your actual move-in day. This will let you focus on moving boxes and not worrying about the small details.
