20 Questions You Should Ask Before Buying a House

Earlier this week the groundhog did not see his shadow (YES!), there was a thunderstorm here in Michigan, and we posted some questions you should ask before hiring your realtor. To say we’ve been busy in this neck of the woods in an understatement! But, we’re never too busy to stop in and send some extra help out to homebuyers. We know how tricky this whole process can be. And when you’re in the middle of this process, it seems like there is always one more thing to add to your to-do list, one more question that you think of in the middle of the night, one more phone call you need to make to your realtor. To help you organize all of these thoughts and relieve some home buyers anxiety, we put together a list of 20 questions you should ask yourself before buying a home. We sincerely hope that going through this list will help you prioritize, make a clear plan of action and determine just what you want in your future home.

#6 Are there other kids in the area?
#7 Are there any vacant homes in the neighborhood?
#8 What are the zoning regulations?
#9 Is there a neighborhood association?
#10 Why are the owners selling?
#11 How many people have looked at the house?
#12 How long has the home been on the market?
#13 What was the house previously sold for?
#14 What are comparable houses on the market?
#15 What inspections is this home eligible on?
#16 What are the taxes on this home?
#17 Is there information about monthly bills from previous home owners?
#18 What churches and other social organizations are in the area?
#19 What do the cars look like in the neighborhood?
#20 Are there any strange smells in the house?
